In-home Assessments & Coaching
Support Where It Matters Most
Managing challenging behaviors at home—whether it’s struggles with morning routines, bedtime battles, or homework meltdowns—can feel overwhelming. Sometimes, the best way to find effective solutions is to meet families where the challenges are happening: right in your home. My In-Home Assessment of Challenging Behaviors provides an in-depth look at the routines, environments, and interactions that shape your child’s behaviorThis personalized approach uncovers the root causes of problem behaviors and empowers families with actionable strategies to create meaningful change.

What Is an In-Home Assessment?
An in-home assessment is a 3–5 hour comprehensive observation and analysis of your family’s daily routines, focusing on the specific challenges you want to address. By observing your child and family in their natural environment, I can identify the factors contributing to the behavior and provide tailored recommendations.
Research shows that in-home assessments are a highly effective way to address challenging behaviors:
-
"Observing families in their natural settings allows for better understanding of the interactions and routines that contribute to behavior patterns." (Larzelere et al., 2016)
-
"Behavioral interventions are most effective when informed by real-world contexts and individualized family needs." (Stocco et al., 2014)

What an In-Home Assessment Can Address
In-home assessments focus on identifying and addressing the root causes of challenging behaviors during critical daily routines. Areas of focus may include:
-
Morning routines: Addressing difficulties with getting ready for school, managing transitions, or following directions.
-
Homework time: Understanding frustrations, distractions, or resistance to completing assignments.
-
Bedtime routines: Tackling challenges like bedtime refusal, sleep resistance, or difficulty winding down.
-
General behavior management: Observing conflicts, emotional regulation challenges, or sibling dynamics.
-
This process is collaborative—you’ll have opportunities to share your concerns and insights so that the recommendations are practical and realistic for your family.
What an In-Home Assessment Is (and Isn’t)
An in-home assessment is:
-
Observation-based: I observe your family in real-time to identify triggers and patterns.
-
Problem-solving focused: The goal is to provide strategies that work within your family’s natural routines.
-
Collaborative: Parents play a key role in sharing context, concerns, and goals.
What it’s not:
-
A diagnostic evaluation: While I can provide insights into your child’s behavior, this is not a formal psychological or developmental diagnosis.
-
Therapy: The assessment itself focuses on observation and recommendations rather than therapeutic interventions. (See coaching adds on and parent empowerment therapy for additional support)
